This was my first ever Guild Wars screen shot. During one of the beta preview weekends, almost 7 years ago. It's nothing special, but it was first:

And this was the conclusion of the beta, prior to release. LA was filled with presents, and giant wurms. Also, I think this was the first time fireworks were used:

In that final event, a while before the Wurms, large presents had appeared. They opened up and produced gnomes... who exploded. That "cross" would have to be the remnant of such a box.

I should go dig up my own screenshots from the betas. I believe I might have pics specifically of the gnomes, as well as lots of other stuff...

Here are a few pics, i have many dating back to 2002 in the alpha test but NDA still covers those not being shown, maybe i can ask permission but i doubt it as they look radically different from what you see these days in game

From E3 04, top left conditions and enchantments, top right are ranger rituals(environment effects) which back then covered the entire map. Effects in general were massive compared to the gfx for them you see these days,around 2 times as large, ie when prot spirit was put on someone it filled half the screen ;p Icons are not all as you'd see them in game these days, ie they had different effects so yes the bars look crazy these days ;p

Edit: Added another screen. As you can see from the comments yes they had idiot runners in PvP back then too ;p and you can see the messages tab, which was like email in game, if you were offline and someone sent you a message you could read them when you got online.
